Description

Step into Westminster Abbey, a historic church that has stood in the heart of London for over 900 years. Known for its Gothic architecture and deep-rooted history, the Abbey has hosted every British coronation since William the Conqueror in 1066. It’s also the final resting place of prominent figures, from monarchs and statesmen to poets and scientists.

What to See

Explore the Lady Chapel, one of the Abbey’s most breathtaking sections, and view The Coronation Chair, used in ceremonies since 1308. Don’t miss the Poet’s Corner, where literary legends such as Charles Dickens, Geoffrey Chaucer, and Rudyard Kipling are honored. You’ll also see the Grave of the Unknown Warrior, dedicated to soldiers who died in World War I, and a sanctuary commemorating Emily Brontë, T.S. Eliot, Oscar Wilde, and Jane Austen.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries upstairs offer a unique vantage point. Detailed exhibits on coronations and weddings deepened my appreciation. Allow at least three hours!

Walking over centuries of history in the Abbey’s floors was awe-inspiring. The audio guide’s narration by Jeremy Irons added gravitas. Don’t miss Poet’s Corner!

  3. Cassia T. (verified owner)

Attended a choral evensong—ethereal voices echoing through the vaults sent shivers down my spine. The tombs of monarchs and scientists make history tangible.
